kokūn/cocoon means to envelop in a protective or comforting way. Much like its moniker, the label seeks to create wholesome pieces which are an extension of nature. Mothered by Mridu Mehra, who is passionate about creating wearable, low-impact, guilt-free pieces, that are easy on the skin and the earth. Kokūn is intuitively drawn to nature in its inspiration and processes. Resulting in unique pieces, very unlike something mass-produced or picked from a mall. Their endeavor is to preserve and promote ancient practices of textiles in the most sustainable way possible. They source fabrics locally from handloom clusters in India and work with rural women in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, where they extract color from flowers, leaves, berries, roots and give them a second life through their clothes.
